Tammy Francis

Tammy Francis started a home health and hospice agency in East Tennessee

Tammy Francis, RN, CDE, started Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice in 1982 literally out of the trunk of her car. After completing nursing school, she soon realized that many frail, elderly and home-bound people really want to stay at home in their later years to receive health care services. At that time, there were not many options available for in-home care services in rural communities like Newport, Tennessee, much less woman-owned small businesses.

Since 1982, Ms. Francis continues to manage the agency on a daily basis and as an on-call nurse continues to be accessible to patients and their families. Tammy is married to Don “Jabo” Francis, who owns Jabo’s Pharmacy in Newport. They are very active in the community and their church.

Our Mission

Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, Inc., is committed to providing for our community and our patients the highest quality of home health and hospice care in order to facilitate recovery or maximum rehabilitation.

Our Vision

Smoky Mountain Hospice seeks to make hospice care available to all appropriate patients and families in the geographic service area regardless of race, color, national origin, creed, sex, gender identity, disability, age, or ability to pay. In providing care to persons with a limited life expectancy, hospice neither attempts to prolong life, nor to hasten death. The goal of hospice care is to alleviate symptoms — physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, social — enabling the patient and family to concentrate on living. The patient remains in control and hospice focuses on their needs in the setting of the patients’ choice. This may include a peaceful death at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Smoky Mountain Hospice provides care that is palliative, holistic, and supportive.
